The Lake District is a UNESCO World Heritage site, the oldest national park in the UK - and more than lives up to both!
There are lots of different guidebooks and materials on what to do in the lakes, but a great place to start is the official tourism site for the region: https://www.visitlakedistrict.com/
The Visit Lakes site has particularly good guides on local accommodation, and on local events / festivals.
For more details on the area, it is also worth viewing the official national park site: https://www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visiting/plan-your-visit

Kendal has a beautiful surrounding area in its own right - with a fantastic selection of local walks, tarns, and fells to explore.
There are lots of local resources on walking guides, but some great places to start are:
AllTrails - a global walking/rambling site, with a good selection of local routes featured: https://www.alltrails.com/england/cumbria/kendal
WalkLakes - a local directory of graded walks / hikes: https://www.walklakes.co.uk/walks_kendal.html
